I got to know this cafe through my younger sister. She said it was worth it, so I googled it. Without much discussion, the boyfriend and I settled on a dinner date. It was no ordinary dinner; it was special because the boyfriend achieved amazingly good results this time round. Yay to celebration!
We had some spicy hot drumlets as appetizers and ordered a burger each. The burger comes with fries and the burger is HUGE to me. Portion size is definitely suitable for guys. Prices are reasonable too, ranging from S$12-$20. We over-ordered, I think. The drumlets were a bit too overwhelming. There are 11 pieces and there are only 2 of us. Luckily I had my ‘garbage truck’ boyfriend to finish them up.
You can check them out, Fatboy’s The Burger Bar. There are 3 outlets in Singapore. The one at Upper Thomson has a very nice atmosphere for group dinner not more than 6. You can find places to chill, enjoy some dessert or beer along that whole stretch of shophouses after dinner.
Few days ago I saw someone posted a picture of Bacon Egg Toast Cups on Facebook and I’m like, “Wow~ That looks GOOD!” So I goggled and they seem pretty easy to make. Now that my kids’ mid-year exams are over and my afternoon is free from tuition, I’ve decided to use my Mum’s neglected dusty microwave oven. Actually I have an oven at home but it has not been in use for like, 10 years? Uh-huh. And, I make do with whatever ingredients I have at home. I did not have bacon so I used honey glazed chicken ham.
1. Preheat the microwave oven for 5 minutes.
2. Cut the bread into a circular shape. Use 1 slice of bread for 1 cup.
3. Sliced the ham into strips.
4. Spread some butter on the cup/mould before putting the bread in. Press the bread against the mould so that it forms the cup shape.
5. Lay 2 strips of ham on the bread.
6. Crack an egg into each bread cup.
7. Put the bread cups into the microwave oven and heat for ~20min. (I think the duration depends on individual oven.)
I kept a close watch because the bread tends to get toasted more quickly than the egg, so be careful not to burnt the bread! You can use a toothpick to poke into the egg to see whether it has been fully cooked. It is best eaten when the egg is half-boiled. This is my first time making these toast cups and they are so successful! That shows how easy they are to make. Try making these delicious pretty toast cups for breakfast or tea break; I’m sure you will love it!
Well, the long awaited holidays are here not for me, but for the boyfriend! To celebrate the end of those torturous exams, I’ve decided to whip up something good for him. Nothing fanciful but it was made with love. Hotcakes, scrambled eggs, tomatoes and sausages are the best/perfect combi for breakfast. In addition, I cooked Campbell’s corn and mushroom soup to go with the hotcakes and all.
Something worth mentioning is that, it is my first time making hotcakes. I bought this pancake mix (the picture of the packaging is below!) and was skeptical with the outcome but the hotcakes turned out to be very nice. Eat them the ‘McDonald’s way’ with butter and honey or spread some Nutella like what my boyfriend did.
What could be a better way to celebrate the end-of-exams/ the start-of-holidays with some breakfast made by your loved one?
You know, I have this constant craving for this particular snack ever since I came back from Hong Kong last year. And that’s, hawthorn candy, in chinese 冰糖葫芦. It is a popular snack in China that is made from sugar coated hawthorns skewered on a bamboo stick. I ate the original one before but I love the strawberry one, which I had it in HK! Furthermore, it’s FROZEN strawberries. The combination of sweetness and sourness is so damn nice! It’s perfect for the sizzling hot weather in Singapore, really. I don’t mind eating it everyday. I think frozen hawthorn/strawberry candy can sell better than ice-cream. Why nobody sell them in Singapore?! They should be sold like how ice-cream is sold at the roadside. I’m sure business will be so damn good.

This series, written by Cassandra Clare has a total of five books, namely City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls. The sixth book, City of Heavenly Fire will be released in May, 2014. I bought Book One: City of Bones. I couldn’t resist the temptation and finished it in 2 days. Right, I’m hooked onto this series.
Well, if you wanna indulge in some kind of fantasy novel; this is the one. It’s about Downworlders. They are hybrid creatures that include the Children of the Moon (Werewolves), the Children of the Night (Vampires), the Children of Lilith (Warlocks) and the Children of Lylic (the Fair Folk, or faeries).
City of Bones is mainly about shadow-hunters (practically mean, demon hunters) who embarked on the journey of fighting demons to retrieve the Mortal Cup (it’s the cause of the problem; everyone is looking for it!). Family secrets and hidden identities are revealed while helping the main mundane character (they call the humans mundane in the book!), Clary Fray to search for her captured mother. They also faced a love triangle and the dangers of forbidden love. And of course, it is action-packed. The story is fast-paced and dramatic; it’s as though you’re one of them, enjoying the action, feeling the anxiety and seeing blood spew all over. Humor is injected throughout the story. That keeps the story alive and funky. The ending is kind of unexpected but nonetheless, it’s sort of a happy ending, although the badass got away.
And you know what? This book is soon to be a major motion picture in the theatres August 2013! Click here for the trailer!
On a side note, I’m gonna add the name, Jace into the list of names for my future son. Pretty cool name, isn’t it?

I had to blog about this! It’s a once in a lifetime experience. I get to walk on the lrt track! I was on my way home after my morning tuition. Thank God that I didn’t have to rush to the next lesson, but I was hungry. The lrt stopped right in between two stations, right in front of Ten Mile Junction due to a power failure. Well, the not-so-good-thing about this whole experience is that, it broke down at noon time. You know how hot the sun is? It’s blazing, scorching, burning hot. But, at least the SMRT staff made it better. They were helpful. 🙂
The weather for the past few days was so humid, so I had my first try of making popsicles with a popsicle holder I bought from Daiso. I poured yakult into each holder and added some diced nata de coco bits and froze them overnight. And tadaaa! A perfect chilling snack!
It is super easy to make and you can do them according to your liking/mood. You can try fruit juice instead of yakult, so you will have orange-flavoured popsicle, mango-flavoured popsicle or even add sliced strawberries and grapes into your popsicles! Kids will love them!
Our 3rd Anniversary was coming up so I’ve decided to make something that can be eaten. It’s a no-bake snack and it tastes absolutely delicious (some say it tasted like caramel)! This recipe is super easy but be careful not to allow the mixture to harden, if not your nails are gonna hurt.
1. Melt a teaspoon of unsalted butter in a stainless steel pot over a very small fire. Make sure the bottom of the pot is covered with the melted butter.
2. Put in at least 8 big marshmallows. Stir till they melt.
3. Add in 2-3 chocolate bars or 1-2 teaspoons of nutella. (I used leftover Merci chocolate bars!) Mix well with the melted marshmallow.
4. Pour in your crushed cereal. Stir well. At this point, your mixture will be very sticky. Do not turn off the fire until you have stirred it well. (the mixture will harden without heat!)
5. Spread a very very thin layer of butter on your non-stick baking sheet.
6. Scoop out the mixture and put it on the baking sheet. Use your fingers to take a small portion and place it on the baking sheet. Be careful of the hot mixture.
6. I would prefer the size of each portion no bigger than the size of a 50-cent coin, unless your mouth is real big.
7. Garnish them with diced strawberries or cranberries. It’s up to you!
8. Put them into the fridge for at least 30min before consumption.
PS: Based on the above quantities, you can make 8-12 sweets.
